English
English is a mandatory Key Learning Area for all students from Kindergarten through to Year 12 in New South Wales. The study of English involves the exploration and application of language in its various forms - spoken, written, and visual texts -through which meaning is created, conveyed, interpreted, and reflected. As students progress through their schooling, they engage with increasingly complex texts and language concepts, developing critical thinking and communication skills in accordance with the NSW English syllabus.
Proficiency in English equips students to become confident communicators, creative and critical thinkers, and lifelong learners. The study of English fosters their ability to participate thoughtfully and actively in Australian society, promoting intellectual, social, and emotional growth. English also encourages a love of literature and language, challenges students to experiment with ideas, express themselves creatively, and collaborate with others. Ultimately, it nurtures independent, informed learners who are equipped to navigate an evolving world.
