Mathematics
Mathematics is a mandatory Key Learning Area for all students from Kindergarten through Year 10, following the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) syllabus. Through the study of mathematics, students develop essential knowledge, skills, and understanding of mathematical concepts and their practical applications both within the classroom and in real-life contexts.
The Mathematics syllabus is structured around three interconnected strands:
- Number and Algebra
- Measurement and Geometry
- Statistics and Probability
Faculty Teaching Aims
- To engage and challenge students, fostering a positive attitude and enjoyment of mathematics.
- To develop critical thinking and higher-order problem-solving skills essential for future academic and career pathways.
- To support improved outcomes in NAPLAN Numeracy and assist students in achieving their personal mathematical goals.
Additional Support – Lunchtime Tutoring
All students are encouraged to participate in lunchtime tutoring sessions offered by our mathematics teachers. These sessions provide support with understanding concepts, completing homework, and preparing for assessment tasks.
Assessment Procedures
At the start of each year, students receive The School Monitoring and Assessment Procedures booklet, outlining course assessment schedules including learning outcomes, task dates, and weighting. For any queries, students and parents are encouraged to contact the Head Teacher of Mathematics.
Special Programs
Students demonstrating advanced mathematical abilities can participate in Gifted and Talented College Maths Enrichment Days for Stages 4 and 5, designed to extend their learning and challenge their skills.
