Technological and Applied Studies (TAS)

Technological and Applied Studies (TAS) at Chifley College Dunheved Campus offers students a dynamic and engaging learning environment that blends theoretical understanding with hands-on, practical experiences. Through the design process, students develop essential skills in creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation—key competencies for success in the 21st century.

Stage 4: Technology Mandatory

In line with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) syllabus, Technology Mandatory is a compulsory subject for all students in Years 7 and 8. This course introduces students to a range of materials, tools, and digital technologies, as they explore real-world problems and create solutions through both practical and theory-based learning.

Stage 5: TAS Electives

In Stage 5 (Years 9 and 10), students can choose from a variety of elective subjects, allowing them to explore specific areas of interest and develop specialised skills in various technologies and industries.

These courses build on prior learning and support students in becoming increasingly sophisticated in their ability to design, produce, and evaluate innovative solutions for authentic needs and opportunities.

Our Approach to Teaching and Learning

The TAS faculty is dedicated to providing meaningful, future-focused learning experiences that support students' academic, personal, and vocational growth. Our teaching aims include:

Facilities and Faculty Achievements

Our purpose-built practical learning spaces are equipped with modern technology including 3D printers, Lego robotics kits, and industry-standard tools. These resources support the delivery of innovative and relevant learning experiences across all TAS subjects.

Students are given opportunities to showcase their work in events such as the Stage 5 TAS and Performing Arts Showcase, celebrating their creativity, technical skills, and achievement in design and production.

Safety and OnGuard Training

To ensure a safe and supportive learning environment, all students are required to complete OnGuard Safety Training—an online program aligned with Work Health and Safety (WHS) standards. This program ensures students understand how to safely operate tools and equipment before engaging in practical work. Modules are completed as part of students' homework routines to prepare them for practical lessons.

Subjects offered in Year 7-8 include:
  • Technology Mandatory
Electives offered in year 9-10 include:
  • Food Technology
  • Graphics Technology
  • Industrial Technology – Metal
