Mathematics

Faculty teaching aims:

  • Quality Teaching , Delivery of Quality Programs that enhance the Educational aims of all students, enrichment class 7/8 and enrichment class year 9.  Mandatory subject for Stages 4 and stage 5.
  • Mathematics is used for understanding and identifying the patterns and relationship in real life. It is a tool for communication, reasoning and problem solving in school and beyond. Mathematics teaches critical and higher order thinking to apply strategies to navigate every aspect of everyday life and future career paths.
  • The Mathematics faculty aims to improve NAPLAN results in Numeracy and help students achieve their personal goals in Mathematics.  The teachers engage and challenge students to enjoy Maths and prepare them for the Mathematics of everyday life.

Subjects/strands taught by Faculty:

  • Students study Mathematics strands: Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, Statistics and Probability. 
  • Stage 5 pathways: 5.1, 5.2 and 5.3
  • Satisfactory completion of the mandatory study of Mathematics during Stage 5 (Years 9 and 10) will be recorded with a school assessment of either A10, A9, B8, B7, C6, C5, D4, D3, E2

Lunchtime tutors:

All students are welcome to come and make use of lunchtime tutoring by the mathematics teachers. Help is offered with concepts, homework and/or assessment tasks.

Assessment:

All students are provided with "The School Monitoring and Assessment Procedures" booklet including course assessment schedules at the beginning of the year. The booklet includes the outcomes assessed, dates of tasks and weighting of the task. If in doubt please contact the head teacher of Mathematics for any clarification.

Gifted and Talented College Enrichment days for  Stages 4 and 5:

  • Tuesday Term 2 Week 7
  • Tuesday Term 4 Week 7

Reminders for assessment:

Students are given regular reminders regarding their outstanding assessments and exams
