Mathematics

The study of mathematics is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.

By studying mathematics, students develop knowledge, skills and understanding of mathematical concepts and their use within the classroom and beyond.

The syllabus consists of the following strands:

  • number and algebra
  • measurement and geometry
  • statistics and probability

Faculty teaching aims:

  •  To engage and challenge students to enjoy maths and prepare them for the mathematics of everyday life.
  • To teach critical and higher order thinking, preparing students for future career paths.
  • To improve NAPLAN results in Numeracy and help students achieve their personal goals in mathematics.

Lunchtime tutors:

All students are welcome to come and make use of lunchtime tutoring by the mathematics teachers. Help is offered with concepts, homework and/or assessment tasks.

Assessment:

All students are provided with "The School Monitoring and Assessment Procedures" booklet including course assessment schedules at the beginning of the year. The booklet includes the outcomes assessed, dates of tasks and weighting of the task. If in doubt please contact the head teacher of mathematics for any clarification.

Special programs:

Students may participate in gifted and talented college maths enrichment days for Stages 4 and 5.
